 MICHIGAN WATER DAMAGE CATEGORIZED
Michigan Water Damage Category 1 (Clean Water) -
Clean water that is visibly clear and possesses little or no odor. If you smell any type of fecal matter or urine, your water is either category 2 or 3. Common sources of category 1 water is water supply lines such as dishwasher lines, refrigerator / ice maker pipes, sink water lines, and hot water lines used for hot water home heating. Broken appliances such as a dishwasher or hot water heater also fall under the category of clean water.

Michigan Water Damage Category 2 (Grey Water) -
Grey water is also visibly clear for the most part. However, it often has a slight to mild foul odor that is noticeable when in the affected area. This water damage must be treated with much more caution than the clean water mentioned above. Sources of category 2 grey water commonly include a failed sump pump or overflowed toilet.

Michigan Water Damage Category 3 (Black Water) -
Black water is the most dangerous of all water damage. It is a filled with bacteria and is a breeding ground for harmful contaminants, including bacteria and mold producing organisms. All materials affected by black water damage must be handled with extreme caution, removed from the residence, and discarded of immediately. Black water commonly comes from failed ejector pumps, broken sewage lines, water from streams, rivers or seas, and any standing water. Any water with visible fecal matter is most definitely black water. Once again, all materials affected with black water must be carefully but promptly discarded.

What Is Thermal Imaging Infrared Technology?

SEE WHAT THE NAKED EYE CAN'T. GET TRUE ASSESSMENT OF WHATS WET AND WHERE!

Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to "see" and "measure" thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye; it's the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared. The higher the object's temperature, the greater the IR radiation emitted. Infrared allows us to see what our eyes cannot. Infrared thermography cameras help us determine what can stay and what wet material has to come out. This insures we only take out the damaged material! Most companies tell you it's wet to be able to remove more materials and BILL FOR MORE DAMAGE! With this Thermal Imaging Technology There is no guessing. DON'T GET BURNED BY CHEATING CONTRATORS!

*   High speed air movers, create airflow across walls, carpet, pad and furniture, evaporating moisture turning into a vapor u
*   Drying equipment controls temperature and humidity, helping prevent swelling and warping of floors, walls, and furniture.
*   Thermo Imaging Cameras (Infrared) are used to properly diagnose where the infiltration of the water is that cant be seen by the naked eye and pinpoint where to properly remove wet material to start the drying process.

When Water Damage Strike's Some things the Property Owner Can Do Until The Professionals Arrive

Call a professional as soon as you discover water damage. Bacterial growth begins immediately following a flood, flooded basement or sewer back up.
Do not vacuum wet floors or carpets; you're placing yourself at risk for electric shock. Besides, the removal of water from floors and carpets requires specialized machinery. Vacuum cleaners are inadequate for the job.
If you encounter standing water in any room, do not enter if the electricity is still on. Wait until a professional arrives on the premises.
Turn on your ceiling fans, box fans and oscillating fans throughout the house to aid in the drying process. If your house has an air conditioning system, turn it on at the lowest temperature your utility bill can stand. If your water damage is incurred during the winter months, turn on your heating system.
Blot as much of the water as you can with large beach towels. Mop the floors to lessen the possibility of seepage and mildew accumulation.
If you own a dehumidifier, turn it on if the outside temperature is approximately 65 degrees or higher (and chances are, it is in these springtime months).
Lift saturated area rugs and other removable floor coverings, and place outside away from your home. Warning: Wet rugs are extremely heavy and will require more than one person to lift.
Grab a towel, and wipe all wet furniture dry. If you own any cinder blocks, place them underneath all furniture to minimize water damage. If you have no cinder blocks, wrap towels around furniture legs, or line sheets of aluminum foil underneath them. Remove sofa cushions and chair cushions, and elevate them to allow air to dry them from all sides.
Survey all curtains and draperies throughout the house. If they're skimming any wet floors, lift them and either tack them up or place them over a coat hanger hooked onto the curtain rod.
If you spot any wet fabrics throughout your home -- whether it be sheets, tablecloths, blankets or other coverings -- remove them and place them outside for drying.
Gather all precious valuables, such as important documents, family photos, paintings and/or sculptures, and family heirlooms to a dry, safe place. And make a mental note to buy a weather-proof safe for your smaller valuables and important documents.
Remove damp books, and spread them out to dry.
Hang damp clothes up to dry. Materials such as leather are particularly sensitive to outside weather variables, so it's best to keep them indoors at room temperature.
Open doors throughout the house, including bedroom doors and closet doors, to speed the drying process. Your rule of thumb should be to open anything that can be opened -- whether it's a drawer, cupboard, window or interior door -- to maintain air circulation. and last call the professionals at Select Restoration.
